Classical Feng Shui
What is Classical Feng Shui?
Classical Feng Shui is a complex and sophisticated philosophical system that was developed some 6,000 years ago in Ancient China. Although much of its origin has been lost in the history of humanity, its roots can be traced back to many ancient classical texts.
Nowadays, its definition is often muddled by a combination of different schools or systems of Feng Shui. The authentic, or Classical, practice essentially boils down to the study of four important factors:
- The Environment
- Property
- Time
- Residents
An integral part of the authentic practice is in the use of a Luo Pan (Feng Shui Compass) that measures the location and direction of the property under assessment in relation to its environment. It also maps a precise calculation of Qi flow externally and internally within a space.
Classical Feng Shui does not place an emphasis on interior designing or object placement. Rather, it is a “macro” practice that first focuses on the external environment such as the natural landforms surrounding the property; only then does it move “inward” to focus on the internal space by using formulas and other models of calculation.
The practice leaves no guesswork and can often provide very precise and in depth assessment that is tailored specifically to the individuals occupying the space.
