On February 4th, we officially welcome the arrival of the Yin Fire Rooster Year! As we say goodbye to the mind-boggling Monkey Year, the energetic shifts in the Elements will influence our year in a brand new way.

To keep in alignment with this year’s Elements, here are 8 fun ways to welcome and celebrate the Year of the Rooster!

  1. Spring Clean Your Health

Every start of a new (solar calendar) year, we always begins with the spring season. Therefore, as the mind, body, and spirit transition from Yin to Yang energy, it is inherent within us to experience our own rebirth and rejuvenation.

Because spring is a Wood Element, it is also associated with the liver and gallbladder, the major organs responsible for storing blood during rest, and releasing it to nourish the tendons and muscles throughout the body during physical activity.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, stagnant liver qi disrupts emotional flow producing feelings of stress, anger, irritability, and frustration. It also causes physical stress including muscle tightness and spasms, insomnia, irregular menstrual cycle for women, and dry eyes and skin, to name a few.

While the liver is an amazing organ that can regenerate or repair itself, giving these organs the extra attention they need during this spring season will help to revitalize liver qi in the body. Consider doing a simple, gentle liver cleanse, eating foods that are in season, drinking alcohol and caffeine in moderation, and incorporating more physical fitness in your routine.

  1. Learn Something New

In BaZi, the Yin Fire Rooster combination represents the symbolic meaning of “Academic Star.” That means it is a wonderful time to invest in knowledge, nurture and expand on existing skills, and try something new and different. Academic Star doesn’t necessarily mean studious, but it does carry the meaning of intellect, innovation, knowledge, and creativity. In fact, people who were born 60 years ago in 1957 (also a Yin Fire Rooster Year) were already born with this quality! This makes them quite clever, intelligent, philosophical, and have a natural appreciation for information and knowledge. And as the energy (re)cycles every 60 years, it means babies born in 2017–a Yin Fire Rooster Year–will also be born with an Academic Star already!

  1. Get Your Annual BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) Refresh

If you enjoy incorporating annual rituals such as creating a vision board, setting new goals, or clearing clutter, you should also consider getting your personal annual BaZi update with me. While BaZi is not quite an astrology reading, it is closely associated with understanding the energetic influence of the current time with your birth date. In other words, you can better understand what the new year will bring specifically to you.

“Going with the flow” is a common western statement that, in my opinion, ends up in the dark abyss because it is vague and different for everyone. But BaZi can – at the very least – articulate, clarify, and validate the intuitive hits that you may already have inside you. Moreover, you can better align your yearly goals, plans, actions and desires with a more intentional and deliberate approach, while still leaving room for the sweet mysteries in life. I strongly believe that is a healthy, fun, and advantageous way to start the New Year! Click here to learn more.

  1. Explore the Arts and Theater

This is a great time to expand on your cultural taste! Because the Fire Element is closely associated with the mind (brain), heart , and the eyes, it is beneficial to deliberately align your new year discoveries that bring wonder, inspiration, curiosity, and joy to the mind, heart, and soul. Attend a play, watch a musical band, take in a ballet performance, check out your local art galleries, participate in a painting or cooking classes, or laugh-out-loud at a comedy show. Whatever the scene is for you, give yourself the gift to appreciate creativity, imagination, and artistry.

  1. Let Go of the Old

“Holding on is believing there is a past; letting go is knowing there’s a future.” – Daphne Rose Kingma

This may sound like a western cliché but this year’s Elements couldn’t have made this statement any more relevant and true! The relationship of the Fire-Rooster is called the “Setting Sun” and very much a continuation from the Fire Monkey Year. In other words, try to visualize what it feels like when the Sun is setting in the West. The day is ending as night falls, only for the day to begin again. Similarly, every beginning must also have an ending. And this year is all about the endings.

That’s why the energy of 2017 is purposefully provoking – and supporting – you to release the hang-ups and disappointments of the past and any ideas, habits, goals, relationships that are old, ugly, negative, and stale. It is the only way to move forward.

  1. Get Your Annual Feng Shui Update for Your Home and Office

Just like the fortune of a person, the space you live and work in will also experience its ups and downs. Feng Shui is an amazing discipline that helps us to understand the energetic qualities of our physical environment. In other words, it puts compelling meaning to what we are feeling about our space.

No matter what your primal concern is – be it money prosperity, health and relationship harmony, or overall wellness – incorporating the knowledge of Feng Shui will not only give you perspective on how the year’s energy will transpire within your space, but it can also better equip you to proactively manage the energetic cycles of the year and you can align your space with your personal energies with ease and success. 1. Make Room for Love and Romance

The Rooster carries the meaning of Peach Blossom and it is often associated with sexual and intimate attractions and it helps to promote love and romance between two people. If you’re single and ready to mingle, this may be the year for love. If you’re happily attached, this may be the year to elevate your relationship to the next level. Whatever the reason, you can also use it to benefit you for work and business since the Peach Blossom energy is all about using the “luck” of people–charm, charisma, glamor, and attraction. If this is the year for the big promotion, the launch of a new product line or market venture, then you might just want to grab a hold of the Rooster’s energy and make a big push for it!

  1. Have Fun

Because the spring season is the mother of Fire, the energy of Fire will come alive once more, and it will cultivate optimism, confidence, enthusiasm, and joy. Take advantage of this time because it will be short lived. Hence, it may seem easy for some to find reasons to dwell and feel disheartened. But don’t take everything so seriously all the time, especially at the start of the new year. We know the coming year will be a tempestuous one, so it is important — now more than ever — to have a heart full of love and lightness. Go out and deliberately seek (or self-create) child-like and lighthearted moments. Set your goals to laugh more and play, be silly, and have fun!
