Feng Shui and Energy
The knowledge of Classical Feng Shui is predominantly used to understand the energetic qualities of our physical environment. In physics, energy is defined as a “property” that can manipulate its form, either by transferring to another or transforming and converting into another form.
It’s true, energy is mostly an unseen force. That’s why our western culture remains predominantly skeptical and unconvinced that there is legitimacy to using Feng Shui in our every day life. Most people need to see in order to believe. A kind of tangible proof that is often associated with our cultural way of thinking.
With more openness and awareness, however, our cultural perception of “energy work” has vastly improved, especially with the introduction to yoga, reiki, and qi gong. But as a community as a whole, we are still light years away from collectively emulating the idea that: Energy is greater than all of us. And we have much to learn from other cultures like the Chinese, Native Americans, and Indians, to name a few, that have traditionally embodied not just the acknowledgement of the inner (and outer) workings of the unseen forces, but also how instinctive and natural it is to embrace and incorporate this idea in their every day way of life. Culturally, they have understood and observed this vital, metaphysical truth.
Today, modern science has irrefutably proven that energy, indeed, has a cosmic and dynamic influence that can physically manifest in our lives. They show up as light, heat, sounds, movements, and even in the breath. In Chinese, energy or qi is considered the “source” of life because energy IS life. While its natural form remains unseen, energy is the source that makes the water flow, the trees grow, and the flowers bloom. It breathes life and vibrancy to all living things. It exists with and in nature–and within us–every single moment, every time. Its potential is limitless.
And so in Feng Shui, energy shows up as a key influencer in people’s overall well being. It can manifest in good health, prosperity and abundance in wealth, and happiness in relationships. These are among some of the most basic–and key–indicators associated with a home with good Feng Shui; in other words, a home with positive energy.
That’s why when it is used properly, Feng Shui helps us to not only understand the energetic qualities of our spaces, but we can also use it to strategically locate and pinpoint areas where these energy spots are inside our homes. To simply put it: Positive energy influences our lives in a harmonious way; and negative energy influences our lives in a destructive way.
When we know where these sensitive energy spots are, only then can we better align our personal desires with our physical space purposefully and with intention. This affords us the opportunity to optimize on good fortune and minimize on bad luck.
